I’ve used the Level8 Voyageur 20-inch carry-on a few times now, and my husband has used it too. He’s usually a Tumi guy, so I was pretty impressed when he said, “I like that bag. I’ll use that one again.”
We both appreciate its thoughtful design, especially the wide handle and flat packing space. Here’s a closer look at the features I like, how I packed it, and what makes it easy to use.

The Wide Handle Makes a Difference
One of the first things you’ll notice about the Voyageur is its wide handle. It feels sturdy and makes the suitcase easy to maneuver, including when moving over surfaces like carpet or cobblestones.
It’s my favorite suitcase handle design that I’ve tried. The width gives me a comfortable grip and makes the bag easy to control.
The design also benefits the interior. With the trolley handle rails positioned along the outer edges, you get a flat packing surface without bars running through the middle. To me, that makes packing feel easier and more organized.
Exterior Features

A Sturdy, Flexible Shell
The Voyageur has a German-made Makrolon polycarbonate shell. It feels sturdy while still having a little flexibility, and I appreciate that it feels relatively lightweight.
Protective Feet
There are protective feet on the back and side of the suitcase. These help keep the shell from resting directly on the floor when you set it down in those positions.
Quiet Spinner Wheels
The Voyageur has quiet, 360-degree spinner wheels with the Level8 logo. I appreciate how easily they move and how they handle rougher surfaces.
Flexible Carry Handles
The top and side carry handles sit close to the suitcase when you aren’t using them. They pull out easily when you need to pick it up, giving you room to get your hand underneath.
TSA Lock and YKK Zippers
The suitcase includes a TSA-approved combination lock, which allows TSA agents to open it with their special key if needed.
It also has YKK zippers, which feel sturdy and are one of the details I highlighted in my video review.
Color Options
At the time of filming, the Voyageur was available in five colors, including the limited-edition Celadon and Yellow/Black options.
Ours is black, which is the color my husband usually prefers for his luggage.
Inside the Voyageur Carry-On
Flat Packing Space
The interior capacity is 43 liters, with flat packing space on both sides.
That flat surface is particularly useful for clothing I want to fold as little as possible. I don’t have to work around raised handle bars in the middle of the suitcase.
Zipped Compartments
Both interior sides zip closed all the way around, helping keep everything contained when you open the bag.
The interior dividers also have some flexibility. When the suitcase is full, closing them helps hold the contents in place and provides a little compression.
Waterproof and Mesh Pockets
The interior includes a waterproof pocket that I use for liquids that could potentially leak, such as my wrinkle-release spray.
There’s also a flexible mesh pocket for organizing other items. I like having separate places for smaller things so they’re easier to find.
How It Sits on a Luggage Rack
One thing I appreciate about this carry-on is how stably it sits on a luggage rack when open.
I don’t always love the way clamshell suitcases work on luggage racks, but this size balances comfortably. Having both interior compartments zipped also helps keep things from falling out when I open it.
What I Packed
For the packing demonstration, I included:
- Two large packing cubes
- Two medium packing cubes
- Makeup and skincare
- Extra liquids
- Medicine and a first aid kit
- A hairbrush, deodorant, Q-tips, and lashes
- A hair wand and straightener
- A pair of shoes
- A linen top
I arranged the packing cubes and toiletries around the clothing, then used the smaller pockets for items I wanted to keep separate.
Even with everything packed, the suitcase closed without a problem.
My Packing Tip for Fewer Wrinkles
Linen is prone to wrinkling, and I don’t want to spend my vacation ironing or steaming clothes.
For this demonstration, I folded my linen top as little as possible and laid it flat at the bottom of one side. Then I placed the other items on top.
The flat interior makes this approach easy. Keeping folds to a minimum helps reduce creasing, which is one of the main reasons I enjoy packing in this suitcase.
Value and Brand Benefits
In my review, I noted that the Voyageur combines several features I appreciate at a price point below many competing options.
Along with the wide handle and flat packing layout, it includes a polycarbonate shell, quiet spinner wheels, YKK zippers, a TSA-approved lock, and a waterproof interior pocket.
At the time of filming, Level8 also offered:
- A lifetime warranty
- Free shipping
- 30-day returns
🏆The brand has received multiple design awards as well🏆.
My Final Thoughts
After using the Level8 Voyageur, the wide handle and flat packing space are the features that stand out most to me.
It’s easy to maneuver, gives me an organized space for packing, and lets me lay wrinkle-prone clothing flat with fewer folds. I also appreciate how comfortably this carry-on sits open on a luggage rack.
And the fact that my husband wanted to use it again says something about his experience, too.
