Are you traveling through Lisbon?
Get the most out of your time with this 2-3 day Itinerary for Lisbon!
Lisbon is an amazing city my friends! As a resident we travel though Lisbon on almost every trip to Portugal.
Be prepared for the hills, and wear comfortable non-slip shoes or sneakers with a good sole. I talk more about some options in my post on COMFORTABLE SNEAKERS. The limestones throughout Lisbon and all of Portugal can be slippery even without any rain so be prepared with proper footwear. Remember you can easily get Uber, Lyft or cabs as well.
I recommend using Google maps or the Wanderlog app to help you navigate the directions. You can waste a lot of time going back and forth to different areas of the city, otherwise. Wanderlog uses Google Maps, and this is where I’ve pulled the below itinerary screenshots from.

Look for the famous yellow street car 28 in historic neighborhoods like Alfama, Baixa, and Chiado. It’s iconic Lisbon.
HOT TIP: The street car 28 itself can be very crowded, and not necessarily the best way to view those neighborhoods because of the crowds fighting for the windows. You can walk or take a Tuk Tuk for less impinged views. Also, anywhere you see “Miradouro” these are awesome viewpoints to overlook the city.
Day One – Belem & Alfama
Belem:📍1-5
Belem Tower is being worked on, but you can still see it from the outside.
HOT TIP: There are stairs down to an underground walking bridge near the Monument of the Discoveries on the riverside, which takes you across the busy street to the side where the Jeronimos Monastery is.
CLOSED on MONDAY: Jeronimos Monastery and National Pantheon

LX Factory and Alfama 📍6-10

Day 2 – Av. da Liberdade, Rossio Sq., Baixa, Chiado
There is a lot to see today! Starting on the famous Avenida de Liberdade at the statue of Pombal. These are some main highlights to see.
Visit the Santa Justa Lift & Livraria Bertrand Bookstore
Santa Justa was built by a student of Gustave Eiffel, it connects Baixa district to Carmo Square.
Skip the line
HOT TIP: Skip the line. Walk up from the top and take the spiral stairs for the same view free of charge.
Livraria Bertrand -Oldest Bookstore in the World
This is really cool bookstore located in the Chiado neighborhood of Lisbon, is renowned as the oldest bookstore in the world. It’s in the Guiness book of world records.
HOT TIP: If you buy a book there, remember to ask them to stamp the inside cover saying that you purchased it there.
