This restaurant was highly recommended by Salvo, our driver, but we didn’t get a chance to try it. Salvo was born in Taormina and he recommended Vineria Modi which was excellent so we’ll try this one next time. And, yes there will definitely be a next time! We’ve made a pact!

1. Syracusa & Noto
We had a driver pick us up at Grand Hotel Timeo
2. Mount Etna Wine Making & Tasting Experiences
We had a private driver (Salvo) who picked us up at our hotel. Salvo took us to two local Mount Etna vineyards. The wine tasting and food pairings of these special Sicilian wines were wonderful.
Cottanera Winery
We tasted a rose, white, and red wine selection here. They were very nice and
Benanti Winery
This was our favorite and we purchased some wine to enjoy at our hotel for a night cap.
3. Villa Romana Casale located in Piazza Armerina
This is one of the best-preserved examples of a Roman villa within the empire. Many refer to this as his hunting villa. You see millions of tiny tiles making elaborate mosaic artworks on the floors depicting the owner’s life. It is similar in today’s world to how photographs might show you about someone’s life today. The large mosaic story shows pictures of wild animals he would have captured, but not killed actually. The mosaic pictures show them capturing the animals. They transported them alive to the Colosseum or Forum in Rome to fight the gladiators. This about one hour and forty five minutes away. It’s a great stop halfway to/from Agrigento.
After our guided tour (highly recommend) we had lunch at nearby Trattoria La Ruota. At lunch we had great food and wine, additionally, it had been awarded Michelin stars for multiple years.
