Traveling internationally requires careful planning, especially when it comes to packing your personal item for the plane. In this guide, I’ll walk you through what’s in my travel Blast backpack, which I’ve been using as my personal item on international flights lately. This backpack is designed for organization and easy access, making it perfect for long journeys. Here are my essential things to pack for your next international flight.

The back compartment, typically for a laptop, holds:

• Prescription medications (including epipen)
• Bandaids and duct tape
• Benadryl, Advil, and other OTC medications
• Motion sickness bands
• Earbuds and barrettes
• Delta employee reward certificates
• Pens, a planner, and masks
• Important documents and passwords
• Health insurance, HSA, and COVID vaccination cards
• While passing through security – A crossbody phone case with ID & credit cards

This compartment keeps my health and tech essentials organized and secure.

✈️ Front Compartment: Essentials at Your Fingertips

The front stretchy pocket holds my airplane essentials bag, which includes:

• Homeopathic jet lag tablets
• Lip balm
• Hand wipes
• Cough drops
• Toothbrush wisps
• Energy and sleep aids

This setup allows me to easily access these items during the flight without rummaging through the main compartment.

🤧 Quick-Access Pocket: Hygiene Items

I store hand sanitizing wipes and tissues just behind the front pocket. Keeping these items here ensures they’re readily available when needed.

🥤 Side Pocket: Hydration and Vision

In the water bottle compartment, I keep:

• Prescription eyeglasses with a magnetic clip-on sunglasses lens are an excellent twofer for travel
• Electrolyte gum for energy

These items are easily accessible and help me stay alert and hydrated.

🔒 Hidden Side Pocket: Security Items

A hidden pocket on the side stores:

• My passport
• A Velcro money pouch for emergencies

These items are kept safe and easily accessible during travel.

I maintain a stash of snacks, including:

Having these on hand helps with ear pressure and keeps me energized.

• A packing cube with an extra outfit, including underwear and socks
• A gimbal for video recording
• Pepto-Bismol for digestive issues
• A slim jewelry case to protect delicate items
• A universal power adapter for various countries with 2 USB-A & 2 USB-C cords for all my devices

🎲 Bottom Compartment: Shoes

The bottom compartment offers options to pack::

• Shoes (Jump to most comfortable White Sneakers Post)
• Jacket
• Laundry
• Travel games like Mexican Train and Uno (long flights with no TV or layovers)

🔌 Top Compartment: Cords and Chargers

The top compartment holds:

• Charging cords for various devices
• A wireless charger for my phone
• Liquids bag
• A small medicine kit with prescription creams

I’ve been using this Blast backpack as my personal item while I’m traveling internationally, but I even used it on my last domestic flight because I love how it’s organized to access things without digging through the main compartment.
